Moussa Sissoko has poured fresh scorn on Everton's summer interest in him - insisting Spurs are the bigger club.
The 27-year-old Frenchman, who impressed at Euro 2016 , quit relegated Newcastle to remain in the Premier League on Deadline Day.
It came after Everton boss Ronald Koeman failed in a bid to tempt him to Goodison Park. Sissoko is alleged to have switched his phone off to avoid calls from Koeman as he completed his move to Spurs.
He has now dismissed the idea that the Toffees, currently just one place and two points behind fifth-placed Tottenham, would have been an option.
Sissoko said: “Why would I have joined Everton? Spurs are a bigger club.
Sissoko insists Tottenham are a "bigger club" than Everton |
“When I saw on the TV or in the news that I was in Everton or that I was supposed to sign for Everton. All of that was total rubbish.
“They wanted me at Everton. I didn’t hear anything else. Tottenham came in next. In my head it was clear I absolutely wanted to sign for them.”
Sissoko’s latest, most honest assessment of his summer decision making has come despite an unimpressive start to life in north London.
He has so far failed to score a goal or provide an assist since his arrival.
But he has already maintained his best is yet to come and claims he has no regrets about his choice.
“Without wishing to offend Everton, Tottenham in my opinion is a bigger club than Everton.” he added. “So for me it was better to go here. And I didn’t think more about it. I signed.”
